The hydrological cycle: characteristics, stores and transfers.
Freshwater Infographic task Use the information from the video clips above to produce a simple infographic on freshwater. The infographic should include: 1) Why freshwater is important for life on earth 2) How the world's water is broken down by % (% saltwater and where freshwater is found) 3) Key uses of water
The Hydrological Cycle
Annotated diagram Create a full page/poster sized fully annotated diagram to show the hydrological cycle. It should include and explain all of the terms listed below:
Evaporation
Condensation
Precipitation
Evapo-transpiration
Percolation
Infiltration
Surface flow/ surface run-off
Streamflow/channel flow
Through flow
Groundwater flow
Water table
Aquifer
Ocean
Vegetation
Rivers
Lakes
Ice-sheets and glaciers
Soil moisture
The Hydrological Cycle as a Closed System
The hydrological cycle is made up of STORES and TRANSFERS. A STORE is somewhere that water stays for a period of time eg groundwater, surface water or in the ice caps. A TRANSFER is a process which moves the water from one place or state to another eg evaporation, groundwater-flow.
Go back to your diagram and identify the stores and transfers. Use colour and a key to show these clearly.
